Sacred Harp is about the joy of singing together - in four-part harmony, loudly and powerfully. We sing without an audience, without rehearsal, without director from the tunebook »The Sacred Harp«. It was first published in 1844 in the American South and is the most popular collection of songs using the shape note style of notation - a system that makes it easier to sing after notes. By the way, »Sacred Harp« has nothing with harp music: instead it is a metaphor for the human voice.
While temporarily being nearly extinct, the Sacred Harp tradition is currently experiencing a worldwide revival. Today, Sacred Harp singings do not only take place in the US, but also in many different locations throughout Europe.
We sing in Cologne every Sunday. Come join us!
